16 month old never slept through. Is it too late to sleep train?

We’ve never done any sleep training with our 16 month old. He has never once slept through the night. He currently wakes up about 2-4 times and sometimes we end up giving him a bottle to settle him. He also very rarely sleeps past 5-5.30am but often it’s before 5 he’s up for the day. As a result he sometimes has one nap, sometimes 2 and there is never any routine to his day naps because his level of tiredness differs each day depending on how the night went/what time he wakes up. His bedtime is routine bath 6.30, bottle 6.45 and bed.

We still rock him to sleep as he can’t fall asleep on his own.

Does anyone have any advice for sleep training a 16 month old who is extremely active, doesn’t sit or lie still ever and without leaving him to cry?

🙏 thank you xx

My DD was the same and I was slowly losing all faith when people would tell me how good their child sleeps. She is almost 2 and a half now and in this last week we have cracked it. We haven't done anything different but she's in bed by 8:30 and wakes at 6:30 and it's just come from nowhere.

Tell a little lie the only thing we have changed is the build up to bed time. It's all very calm from 7:45, no iPad, no loud tv, I have avoided getting up to do the washing up or laundry or generally just pottering. She has her tea at 6 bath at 7 supper at 7:45 while she chills and watches a Disney movie. We all just relax and then when it starts getting near 8:30 we start to tell her "bed time in 10 minutes....bedtime in 5 minutes" etc and then that's it.

I saw no end a few months ago and I am so so glad things just magically changed overnight xx
