Is 6 week old sleeping too much?

He’s actually 5.5 weeks and will sleep from 11 to 6.30 with only one almost wake up where he likes to feed with his eyes shut and kind of tops up then sleeps again.

This seems too soon to me. Should I wake him more or let him sleep?

as long as he's following a curve/ gaining ok, enjoy it while it lasts!

If he is gaining weight and is happy during waking hours I wouldn't worry. I would rather have a baby that sleeps too much than one who only sleeps 2 hours a night Grin

Has he been checked for jaundice?

That’s fine, as long as he’s putting on weight and is feeding well the rest of the time. Be happy that he’s already working out what nighttime is.

My DD started doing that at around the same age. Panicked me at first - my boobs especially didn't know what to do, but she was still gaining weight and following her curve on the charts so I just take advantage of some solid hours of sleep for as long as it lasts!

DD slept for 20 hours out of 24 for the first 6 months of her life. I was worried sick! All you ever hear is that babies cry, don’t sleep and that you’ll be demented from lack of sleep.

I spoke to HV, she said it is perfectly normal for some babies to just... sleep!

I ‘woke’ DD every 4 hours during the day to feed her (it was pretty much a dream feed every time) but left her to sleep at night.

She is now 10 and still loves her sleep. She never grew out of her love for sleep. It’s great! Just enjoy your baby and your full nights sleep!
