I do whatever works, which can differ from night to night! Sometimes he goes to sleep on his own, sometimes I have to go up and rock him, other times I just have to go in a couple of times and put his dummy back in and give reassurance. I don't leave him to cry for lengthy periods.

It depends on the day, some days he goes down by himself and others he needs me to go and have a cuddle/give his dummy then he goes down.

Sleep training in the form of cry it out and a baby less than six months just don't go together whether you agree with cry it out / sleep training or not Sad

A baby that young who cries has needs - not always food but maybe scared / lonely / chilly etc

I always fed then thoroughly winded my baby then held her in my arms while I sang a song. Then put her in bed and patted her a bit but let her do the last bit by herself.

B or C

A is cruel and pointless before six months and still dubious after that point, though can see why people do it when they're desperate

I’d say under six months is too young. I’m a strong advocate of sleep training but it has to be at the right age to work properly. Tiny babies need the reassurance of an ever present parent.

Those aren't the only 3 methods btw.

I feed to sleep usually. DP rocks withdummy.
She’s 3 months old and never left to cry. She may wake and grumble between sleep cycles but if she cries we respond.

We used the ferber method when DS was 4 months. Before that we were rocking him in our arms for up to 2 hours each night and it was killing us.

Within a week DS was sleeping in his cot soundly by 7pm each night and we never had to leave him to cry for more than 10 mins. I was dubious about doing it before 6 months but I'm so glad we did, it really worked out for us.

A would never even cross my mind, B it has always been and still is at 18 months.
