4 month old baby not sleeping anymore help!

Hi all new to mumsnet
My 4 month old baby is an actual angel... even from birth he’s been a really good sleeper
At first he used to sleep 11-5 had a bottle then went back down until 9!
As he’s getting older we have been making his bedtime earlier so now (was) sleeping 9-9.30 until 6.30 which was a god send
Now the past week he is going to bed the same time but waking at 1am every night, not for food but to play rolling around eating his toes laughing away, can’t seem to settle him at all usually when I put him in our bed he goes to sleep but not anymore...
Last night I just ended up feeding him at half 1 and didn’t go back down until half 2 then wide awake again half 5!
We have started weening him as he was showing all the cues
(Trying to eat the food out of my hand)
(Making chewing motions when we eat)
He’s only on a few mouthfuls after mid morning bottle and that’s it!
Our routine is good we bath him same time every night and then it’s bottle and bed... his naps have gotten shorter throughout the day also
We have just been away but was still very settled slept 10-7 nearly every night and same when we got home... just this past week it’s been a nightmare!
He is in a sleepyhead which he loves but we took him out and put him in a grobag but still awake rolling around at 1am
Any advice thanks x

Google “4 month old baby regression mumsnet” and you will find a thousand threads with the same thing. All babies seem to go through it. Some people are lucky and it lasts days or weeks and some babies it lasts longer. It signals the change in sleeping for babies. There’s things you can do to poss help/survive but it’s developmental and part of having a baby unfortunately... :-(

I really wouldn't class waking once a night for an hour a 'nightmare' with a young baby! That's life surely... my 3 month old is up 3-4 times I don't see her getting any better in a few weeks...

Just ride it out. He's just a baby!

Please don't try to wean a four month old. He is not 'showing all the signs'.

What he is doing is being a perfectly normal baby, probably entering the four month sleep regression.

Please try to relax a little.

My DD’s sleep went to shit when we weaned her (at six months). Weaning does mess up sleep. Also, there is a four month sleep regression. The signs of being ready to be weaned are being able to sit upright without support, no tounge thrust reflex. Four months is too young. Her sleep isn’t to bad tbh, but appreciate it’s frustrating when it’s the middle of the night and they won’t go back down after a feed.

Could be worse, the 4 month sleep regression changed our sleeping through baby to one that woke every 45 minutes for months on end! He's fine now but that was exhausting.

Agree with PP - sounds like typical 4 month sleep regression! I remember how tiring it was but it does pass. Just stick to your bedtime routine and lots of cuddles if he gets upset. I also remember myself changing everything as soon as baby behaved differently in any way!
