Sleep

Nearly 6 month old suddenly wide awake in the night

DD has always been a really good night sleeper. Goes down at 7, might have to go up once or twice to settle her but then thats it, dream feed at 10.30 and then sleeps through until about 6.30. Her naps arent amazing- usually 3 or 4 that last for 30 mins each but thats how shes always been despite my many attempts to improve them. It has always worked for her.

This week though shes woken up twice at 3.40am, wide awake, quite happy lying in bed blowing raspberries. Shes still in with us so obviously we are awake then and it takes us the best part of an hour to get her to go back to sleep then shes awake again at 6.15.

On the days where this has happened her day naps have been exactly the same.

Ive started weaning about 3 weeks ago but its still very early days and just tasting things. I dont think shes hungry as shes not upset (quite the opposite!!) although she doesnt seem to be drinking as much as usual although we still offer her the same amount.

Whats going wrong?! According to the wonder weeks app shes right in the middle of her 5th leap and food and sleep can be affected- is that it? Or is there something else going on that Im missing?

I would try and increase daytime calories.

Or, if you could tolerate a (quick, easy) night wake for the greater good, wish I'd do is drop the dream feed. Instead of a 10.30pm feed, expect a middle of the night feed (in the short term) to shake things up.

This isn't a long term thing. I would often use the dream feed (or lack of) as a means to affect changes to night wakes. You could bring it back in a couple of weeks.

No help but I feel your pain. Our first slept through 10hrs easy. Turned six months and it all went out the window. She's 5 now and it can still be hit and miss.
