Sleep

Why is she so unsettled??

DD2 is 4 months old.

In the evenings she falls asleep around 8pm , either by me feeding her (ebf) or DH rocking her (we take turns putting DD1 to bed so always night about).

When she falls asleep she is so unsettled. We usually put her in the sleepyhead in the living room but she tenses, gets agitated and cries out every 10-15 mins. A firm hand pressed on her tummy usually helps but often we need to pick her up and rock her till she’s asleep again. It’s so frustrating as can’t get anything done in the evening because of it!

It happens regardless of how she’s fallen asleep, and whether she’s sleeping in my chest or the sleepyhead,

Any insights??

During the night she’s a bit more settled but will about 3 times for a feed.

I’ve been dairy and egg free for a couple months, wondering if something else could be bothering her?

She’s a happy wee baby during the day

4 month sleep regression/development leap.

Comes up multiple times a day.

This is really normal and as titty said it’s quite a common subject on here x

It’s really tough but they start sleeping longer stretches as time goes on. It takes time though just resettle as needed and it’ll pass.

Get yourself the Wonder Weeks app - it’ll tell you when to expect the sleep regressions

I’m aware of the 4 month sleep regression, DD1 went through it and I’m still waiting for her to sleep through the night at 3 Shock

She seems more uncomfortable than anything, crying in her sleep and going stiff as a plank etc - although doesn’t seem to happen any other time of the day!

@SleepForTheWeek so sorry - was it every hour? I was a bit of an emotional wreck during the 4 month regression. Early nights helped a bit - BrewFlowersCake for you

Could it be wind? Our little one was fine in the day as more upright but laid down could cause issues. We raised her crib at one end and it did improve. Also made sure that after her last feed she was kept upright for longer than necessary. It seems like a long time ago now but was somewhere between 4 & 5 months. Also coincided with teething drool.

I would try reducing awake time in the daytime for naps, this sounds like difficulty settling due to cumulative over tiredness from the day.

Have you tried dummy and bouncy chair daytime (and evening) naps? Great way to quickly and easily get baby through the light sleep phase into a deep sleep. Then to keep baby sleeping longer by foot bouncing.

For the first part of the night (until around 2am) is he would only settle for around 15 mins at a timeShock. It was then very 1-2 hours.

Wind is a possibility. She brings it up well during the day but not night time. She also had a hue poo this morning for her first time in about 3 days so could also have been that - although that doesn’t explain these evenings for the last couple weeks!! The head of the cot is raised already and I hold her upright after every feed for around 15mins.

Her awake time is 1.5-2 hours (depending on length of nap previous). She is rocked to sleep in her pram with a comforter and white noise and usually has a long sleep in the morning then 2-3 shorter naps in the afternoon.

Her napping today has been terrible today though, maybe 4 30min naps and a couple while feeding.

This better be a bloody phase!!

A strong coffee this morning helped
