10 month old screams when put in cot

So until about a month ago my lo slept really well and was really easy to put down both for naps and at bedtime. I'm the first to admit we've had it easy.

All of a sudden he has developed an attitude problem and will only go down in his cot on his terms. He screams sometimes even at being taken into his room. There is no way to sooth him in his cot either, he just stands in his cot shouing. He was going down at 7pm but now it's anywhere between 8 and 10pm but he has no problems self soothing when he wakes in the night. It's similar with naps. Some days he's having one and other days two but it doesn't really make any difference.

Anyone got any tips on how to help him?

Maybe he would just like a bit of extra reassurance at bedtime?

Have you tried staying in his room as he goes to sleep?

Tried that. He still screams. He's just inconsolable until he's out of the cot and out of the room.
