Sleep

Grunting baby

Morning all!

My baby is 9 weeks old. She is a terrible grunter in her sleep, and I'm not sure what to do!

She has reflux, and is on carobel. This seems to have really helped her reflux during the day, she is much more chilled and less sicky. She generally seems happier in the day.

She goes down great at night, has a feed somewhere between 10-11. That usually sees her through until she wakes between 7-8.30.

However, from about 4.30 for the last three nights she is grunting away. She is fast asleep when she is doing it. She used to do this, but stopped for a while when I started the carobel a few weeks ago.

She has been sleeping on an incline in her Moses basket, with it tilted. On Friday night I thought I would try lowering it, and she kept slipping. This is when the grunting started. However, since then she is back to being tilted and it's not making any difference!

Any ideas? Thank you!!

It's totally normal. I looked into this with my newborn and even asked my GP. They're just getting used to their little bodies. I found it hard to sleep through though and then I started using white noise through the night which helped baby and realised it also helped me sleep too - I only woke when baby needed a feed then.

My 5 week old ds is the same. He goes to sleep easily but will wake between 3-5am grunting and continuos swallowing which causes him to gag. He then ends up in my chest until he wakes for the day. He also had severe reflux and medicated for it and has cows milk intolerance.
I was told it's totally normal but I too was getting concerned as he seems uncomfortable.
