20 week breastfed baby waking every 2 hours at nine?

DS2 is 20 weeks tomorrow and he is getting worse at night. He seems to be getting up every 2 hours!

He is a breastfed baby.

DS1 used to get up once and go back to sleep at this stage.

I don't want to feed him every time he wakes up because he will expect it everynight. Letting him
Cry it out seems brutal.

Help?

The first thing woupd be to feed more frequently diring the daytime. More calories taken in the day means fewer are needed at night.

Next, have an alternate way to settle baby that is not feeding.

I would recommend in-cot settling with a dummy. This is much more conducive to independant sleep than cosleeping or picking baby up.

I had a cosleeper cot (normal cot with 1 side removed and wedges up to the bed). Any time baby woke I would roll over in bed, put baby's dummy in and cuddle up to baby in the cosleeper. Usually baby would be back to sleep like this within 10 minutes. I'd do this at every wake up. Then if baby wasn't settled after 10 mins of cuddles with dummy, then I would feed.
