Sleep

Making a cot more comfy

I've been trying to get my LO (almost 5 months) to sleep in his crib in the day as he doesn't seem to settle anywhere else. He's never been the best sleeper day or night but today as I was putting him down for his nap I lay him on our bed on top of the quilt to try and calm him down as he had gotten in a tiz! Low and behold he drifted beautifully off to sleep there and then! He did it the other night too so I'm wondering if its something to do with the quilt and how soft it must feel for him. Is there any way to make his cot more like this? Would it be dangerous to have a quilt tightly tucked around his mattress? Thanks in advance x

It is against sids advise and dangerous to use loose bedding or non-firm surfaces for baby to sleep on.

Honestly, I very much doubt it would make any difference in the crib anyway. Difficulty getting babies to settle for naps is not uncommon and you are possibly clutching at straws any way.

Naps in something that moves will be your best bet. Have you tried a bouncy chair?

Possibly try buying a baby hammock instead? Many baby hammocks look good. It may help him drift off and then you can easily move him into his cot. I think it's also safe for them to sleep in until they can roll - but don't take my word.
