2 YO bed transition

Hi

We put my two year old in a bed last week as I'm 30 weeks pregnant with our second so wanted to get the whole bed thing cracked before the baby arrives. She tends to go to sleep fine but then wakes in the night 4-5 times for a cuddle, she literally screams at the top of her voice until I go in and give her a hug. She then settles but wakes 30 mins to and hour later again. I've tried just putting her back in bed and not interacting but in the middle of the night I cave and give in. She's always been a good sleeper and has slept through until recently. I don't know if I am just reinforcing it by going and giving her what she wants. Last night I went in gave her a cuddle and she started laughing!!!!!!

Is it best to just leave her to cry for a bit or still go in??

I'm still working and so tired, any advice would be helpful!

Was she sleeping well in the cot?

The cot sides give a surprising amount of security to a sleeping toddler. It's the enclosed, safe, secure feeling that they bring.

So my first suggestion would be to no w her back into a cot. My children have been at least 3 years old before being emotionally ready for a bed and then when the transition happened, because toddler was properly ready, it wasn't any sort of a hassle.

So could you leave toddler in a cot? A small IKEA cheap cot could do new baby. Or something second hand. Just until big sister is a little older and ready to give up her cot.

If this is impossible, maybe try recreating the enclosed feeling. You can get bed-dens to enclose a bed in material. Or like a mosquito-net (but prettier!) kind of thing.
