Help me!

He's pretty much never slept through and I take it as it's just him. But he has now also taken to waking at 5am. He cries, I go in, he wants picking up. So I do. I get on the sofa bed with him. He falls to sleep and I am wide awake, drifting of just before my alarm.

I am so fucking knackered it's unreal.

He has a good diet. Yesterday 1.5 weetabix with milk for breakfast. A boiled egg and slice of toast for lunch. A mix of dry cereal to sack on, a bag of pom bears. Some rice and quorn fillet. Some yogurt. Milk.

He goes down at 7 most nights. Sometimes much later. He did drop his daytime nap but now tends to have about an hour. If he has a nap it's hit and miss whether he'll go down at 7. Sometimes it can be as late as 9 but we try after 7pm to keep things quiet and calm and boring for him.

Please please tell me where I am going wrong.

You're not doing anything wrong at all, 2 is a hard age, sure you are doing amazing job. 5am starts are very normal, my older two went through this phase but it does stop, after they drop the nap or when they start understanding something like a gro clock. I was quite tough on ours about not coming in to them until the clock lit up and even now they get up 6am but play in rooms till it lights up at 7. It's very personal but might be worth a try? If not promise it will pass and you will get to sleep again soon Cake xx

My 2.5 year old went through this just around her second birthday. She was sleeping well until then. We stopped her nap about a month later cos it was getting so difficult to get her to sleep at night, 9/10pm, then she was up at 6 and too tired, then had a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon! After the first week she adapted well to no nap, started going to bed at 7 and getting up at 6. She was up and down through the night at some stage through the night most nights. However, we are now at 2yrs and 7 months and for around the past month her night sleep has dramatically improved, she now sleeps from around 7, most nights right through till 7 (or if I'm really lucky 7.30!!!!) I feel like we have turned a corner! I have a couple of other friends who had issues start around their wee ones 2nd birthday, maybe it's a regression type thing? Hopefully it gets better for you soon, it will one day, I think we're out the other side!

Oh and get a gro clock. It has really helped us in the morning. I set it for 6.30 and the sun comes up, my wee one wasn't allowed out of bed until the sun was there, so if she woke at 5am then I would lie in her bed with her till the stars went away and the sun came up. We had quite a few screaming matches, but now she's delighted if she manages to sleep herself till the suns up, is now set for 7.
