Sleep

Short not sweet

My 8 month old's daytime napping has collapsed and I need help!

She wakes around 6:30 and I put her down for her first sleep at 8:30. This usually goes well and she sleeps for an hour, sometimes more.

However her lunch time sleep (I try around 12ish) is now only ever 30 minutes and then her third nap is 30 minutes too - if I can even get her to sleep a third time.

She is obviously tired and yawns the rest of the day and by bedtime at 7 she is a mess.

She used to be fine sleeping 3 x 45 minutes and I don't think it's anything to do with self settling as she can sleep through the night easily.

I'm obviously mis-timing the sleeps but I've tried keeping her awake longer (3 hours awake time) and she seems over tired. I'm just so confused

I know they can transition to 2 naps around now but how can I do this if her lunchtime nap is only 30 mins!

My 8 month old wakes at 6.30 and has his morning nap at 9am - I wake after an hour, we then don't have another nap until 1 (2.5 hours) and then nothing until 6.30. What happens after 30 minutes - does she wake up? could you stroke/pat her and get her to carry through the sleep transition?

She naps for 2.5 hours?! My daughter has never ever napped that long. Once she did an hour and half and I got worried!

After 30 mins she is wide awake - no chance of getting her back down, I've tried.

Do you think it could be a sleep transition issue even though she sleeps so well at night. And also sleeps an hour for her morning nap?

Maybe it's time to drop a nap? My DD is 8 months and on two naps now. Although she's never needed much sleep!

But how can I drop a nap when the second nap is only 30 mins at 12:30? She'd then be up 6 hours till bed!!!

Push first nap a bit later. So try 15 mins everyb2 day until it's about 9.30. That shd push 2nd nap later too and hopefully eventually extend that nap and drop your last nap.

Will give it a try definitely. Not sure how it will go as she's usually yawning for a nap an hour after getting up!

Well today she woke at 6:20 but still looked tired and was yawning so I fed her and put her back down expecting squawking to start. She then fell straight asleep until 7:45!

So will see if that makes a difference today - maybe we were getting her up before she was ready....maybe it will muck everything up...who knows?!

Well it didn't work. She did another 30 minute morning nap and further to that we then we kept her awake for 3 hours to try and extend the afternoon nap. And she did only 30 minutes again. Woke up and I tried to settle again but she got hysterical. Now she's just yawning.....

So we've tried longer awake time and shorter awake time but still only 30 minute naps....I'm out of ideas, anyone else have any?
