Sleep

Could bad sleep be blamed on teething or am I clutching at straws?

My 13mo had started to improve with sleep, still not STTN but having regular long stretches with just 1 - 2 very brief wake ups. The last few nights the proverbial has hit the fan, waking every 1 - 2 hours and being really difficult to settle. He has half a molar through on his lower gum and one point of a molar through on his upper. Could teething really be causing this much sleep disruption? In all fairness, he does seem to want to be sleeping. He doesn't sit up or ask to be picked up, just rolls around crying and won't let go of my hand until he eventually drops off. This is not a sustainable situation for me, I'm particularly down about it as I thought we were getting there with sleep and was enjoying having a bit more of it unbroken!

If he normally better than this and you can actually feel a tooth pushing breaking through the gum (rather than guessing that you think a tooth might come through soon, as some people do) then yes, absolutely this is likely to be a temporary phase that is caused by teething and will pass.

It's probably teeth, my DS is 18mo and has fits of bad sleep as his teeth come though. He's been tossing and turning and rolling around for the last week or so as one of his back teeth has come though.
Have you tried giving him calpol during the night? If he sleeps better after that then you'll know.

He definitely has bits of molar tooth poking out of the gum just not all the way out yet. I suppose I should have more sympathy/patience but it's so hard when I just want to sleep and he won't settle. I get upset with myself that I get so cross with him.

If you can get a finger in without being bitten Abesol liquid is very good at numbing the gum.
