Sleep

Why isn't my almost 7year old going to sleep??

Has always been a really good sleeper.

Lately not going to sleep for hours. No routine change.

Gets upset when he can't sleep.

Has promised no issues or problems he's not talking about.

Has drink, wee/pooh at bath time.

It is driving me nuts!
I think he's maybe just got in to a cycle of not being able to switch off and go to sleep, but how do we break it?

He'll have a night where he goes to bed and sleep normally and I think it's going to be ok, but then goes back to the can't sleep thing HmmConfused

Any ideas/experience/advice?

Erm bedtime too early? It's only 8.40pm now so I'm assuming he's been in bed a while

Christmas?
Practicing play etc, they get so excited and anxious, in my experience.

He's up at 6.30 every morning, regardless of what time he goes to sleep, so has usually been fine with bed at 7ish.

Is this much earlier than most in yr2?

Happy to reconsider bedtime, tho it will be a pain as do a lot of the week bedtimes by myself.

Christmas play was what I originally put it down to, but that's finished now!

Maybe it is just excitement. I hope so!

Probably excitement but I do think 7 is a bit early. Could you manage 7.30 or 7 and a timed half hour self reading?

I could try. Logistically it's a bit tricky as he shares with DS2 (4, and def ready for bed at 7pm) & I tend to sit with DD (2) in her room until she goes to sleep.

Perhaps he could have a half an hour or so read in my bedroom ... Worth a try!
