What age did your baby drop from 3 naps to 2?

That's it really.... Just wondering how many more weeks of buggy walks or car rides I need to do as getting DS down for a late afternoon nap in his cot is impossible!

If your DS is really fighting that late afternoon nap, maybe he's ready to drop it now?

I think my DS was around 7 months? Can't really remember! All babies are different though so you're best off just following your LO's cues.

Generally if it gets to the stage where he wont have a nap when he previously had one, he probably doesnt need it any more!

You might need to put him to bed earlier for a few weeks till he gets used to it....I think we put DS to bed at 6.15pm a few memorable nights when he first dropped that afternoon nap!

My dd also went from 3 to 2 at 6 months, which is fairly early I think. However, at this stage she had already lengthened her naps beyond the magical 30 minutes and was sleeping for at least 90 mins for each nap.

We managed the transition by doing buggy/car rides (as you are now) from around 5 months, to get her to take the third nap. When that began to fail we still did the buggy walk (so she still had some quiet time then anyway), and also did an earlier bedtime.

It was actually a really nice time for us all. Two long breaks everyday and and an evening to yourself. Until she started to drop the second nap 3 months later. ....

Thanks that's helpful. He's 5 months and I don't think he's ready to drop it yet. I used to do all his naps in the buggy until he found his thumb at 4 months! Hes just too wired to be able to drop off in the aft in his cot. Not tooooo long to go then

I think we were 6-7 months when that happened.

About 7/8 months here. Still on 2 naps at 17 months!

DD is 8 months and has been on two bpas a day since January I think. One in the morning about 10.30ish and one in the afternoon 2ish. They are about an hour each though.

7 months, we were having a boogie to Glastonbury and I forgot to take them upstairs. They seemed alright, so I did the same again the next day and that was the end of nap 3!

my d's is 5.5 months and has always just had 2 naps a day. He honestly would not have another!! if that last nap is a struggle he is probably ready to drop it x

Ooooh... that makes for interesting reading! My 8 month old DS has always loved his sleep... but in the last couple of days it has become increasingly difficult to put him down for his late afternoon nap. He still does nap, but often not for his normal 45 minutes any more. Also, his early afternoon nap tends to be later now.
Now I know what's happening! Unfortunately, he'll go to nursery from next week onwards so this will probably mess up the whole system again... but we'll see!

DS will be 9 mo next week and still having 3 naps, although the last one is very rarely anything more than half hour. His nap times /lengths during the day aren't consistent at all though!
