Why is my baby so noisy when she sleeps in her basket?

My 7 week old sleeps really well when she is in me but when she is in her Moses basket (a very recent development - up until last week she would only sleep on me at all) she is really noisy. She grunts and moans and sounds permanently as if she is just about to wake up and start to cry. She is also like this if she sleeps in her pram ever (rare). So, even though she seems fast asleep I am wide awake because she is so noisy and I'm permanently ex

Whoops - sleep deprivation meant posted by accident before I finished! Anyway, I'm permanently expecting her to wake up but she doesn't. Anyone else experienced this? How long will it last and do you know why she makes so much noise? Am so tired and got her and a lively toddler to deal with by myself cos DH away with work all the time.

Yes! My 7 week old does exactly the same thing! She grunts and stretches and groans and squeaks in her Moses basket for up to 2 hours before actually waking up. Wakes me up though! I have taken to wearing earplugs. Sometimes I just get her up and feed her anyway even though she's not even properly awake when I pick her up. She really is so loud.

Sorry meant to say I don't know how long it will last or why she does it, so not much help!

Thanks LateBear - good to hear we aren't alone. I already use ear plugs but she's so loud I can still hear the commotion! Guess I'm just going to have to get on with it.

Some babies don't find it comfortable, my DD was the same always tossing and turning. She was fine when I put her in her cot(in our room) at about 8 wks.

Have you tried elevating the mattress slightly?

Mine was the same at that age! No idea why, but as a word of comfort: he grew out of it by about 10 weeks.

We moved him into his own room at 7 weeks because of this - husband has long commute on M25 and just couldn't sleep.

My 8 week old does exactly the same thing! Grunting, kicking, waving, squeeling.... it's like sleeping with a farmyard animal! He's going into his cot this week and we're hoping that may make a difference.

My 4 week old is exactly the same. We moved him into the spare room earlier this week because I was in pieces due to sleep deprivation. (only had 1-2 hours sleep per night for the past fortnight. Thought i was going to go mad and was feeling incredibly run down.) Some babies are just grunters - apparently they grow out of it...

My four week old does this too - dh and I joke that it's like being at the zoo Grin She's now going 7-8 hours during the night, but dh and I are being kept awake for at least half of that.
If it's any help my ds did this too, and then all of a sudden just stopped. I seem to remember it was around the 8 week mark, but not sure if that coincided with moving him from the Moses basket into the cot.
Can't wait for dd to quieten down!
