Waking out of habit

My DD is waking each night at 11.30 but not for food, just out of habit. We tried to leave her to get back to sleep but she usually works herself up ito fever pitch and goes bonkers. If we change her nappy (which is barely wet) she will settle sooner which leads us to think she wants some interaction with us rathre than anything else.

How can I break this habit? I tried the waking an hour earlier trick over the weekend a couple of times and the it was worse - she went totally bananas and I ended up nursing her back to sleep. She then wanted to feed all night long and I was up every three hours like the old days.

She's only 5 months so I'm a bit reluctant to get too tough when she's so young.

Think I'd go with it! But then, my DS was up five times a night at that age. 4-5 months is a tough age for them. They're just realising they're separate from you, their eyesight is improving, it's all a bit freaky for them. I'd just go with the flow and wait for her to settle down to her usual routine.
