How do I make his room darker?

DS wakes early and I want to eliminate light being a cause. We moved into a new house in November and spent £1000 on blinds, none of which are blackout. DS will sleep in his room in daytime without even the curtains closed but I am not convinced the morning light is not contributing to him waking between 5.30 & 6am. Can you get backing sheets for blinds to make the original blinds more effective at blocking out light? Or any suggestions on a strategy to try out before I find myself replacing the blind for blackout at more cost.

You could try a gro anywhere stick on blackout curtain if it would fit under the blind

Silver foil!!

Seriously. Just tape it to your windows. It blacks out perfectly.

Downsides are it does make your house looks like a drugs den. Thankfully our DCs room is at the back of the house so doesn't really bother me!

Hi, we recently put a blackout blind in DS's room. it cost less than £15 from Argos and looks and works fine

I might go with the silver foil lol, we have a black out blind and a curtain but the light creeps in through the top. He wakes early anyway but would probably help with day time naps.

IMO - it makes no difference whatsover. It's the noise of the birds which wakes my DC up. Not a thing I can do about it, so I have stopped stressing out about it.

Yep birds here too. Dd always slept until seven until she was about 2. Now she always wakes at six. Doesn't bother me though really. Although she's still asleep now

We have gro travel blind too, it looks a bit messy but definitely does the trick

We have black out curtains but the light creeps out over the top. We've put a bath towel over the top of the curtain rail which helps.

We had the same problem, lovely blinds but not blackout. We used tin foil initially, worked a treat but looked stupid from outside. Ended up with a massive roll of black craft paper from The Range, cut to the exact size of the glass. Total blackout and completely unnoticeable from outside. The paper was only £1 too.

paintbynumbers do you stick it ti the glass or just place it against the window at nighttime?

We stuck it to the glass with some sided poster sticky tape, its designed to come off without leaving a sticky mess, worked well. We left the paper in place for about 2years!

I came on to ask just this. DD has blackout lined curtains and a blackout blind but, as they're outside the window and the curtains are hung from a pole, so much light creeps out that it defeats the point and I don't think its just a coincidence that she's been waking earlier as the mornings have got lighter. Thank you for the cheap solutions!
