Weaning of a dummy

Hi.

We have to replace dummy about 10 times a night. Has anyone else stopped using a dummy and how.
He's fine for his naps and to fall asleep at bed time, but for some reasons when he wakes in the night nothing will settle him, other than his dummy??
Please tell me how you did it??

Hi, we finally got rid of the dummy a few months ago, with dd who was just under 3 at the time. We talked a bit about the dummy fairy coming and how the dummy fairy needed the dummies for new babies, and that as she was a big girl, she didn't need one any longer. After putting the idea in her head and letting her know the dummies would be going soon, we put all dummies in the bin so there was no going back! We had a couple of 'grizzly' nights but not as bad as expected, and the first morning after sleeping with no dummy, she had a special teddy that the dummy fairy brought her. The first night, she did cry herself to sleep after about 15 mins and woke once in the night, but it was far less of a trauma than we expected!

How old is your dc by the way? We weaned off having the dummy during the day by age 2 so she only had it at night, as worried it may affect speech.

Hi we had exactly the same problem my dd was just 3 and we told her that as she was a big girl now she was going to be getting big girl presents for Xmas (grandma was buying her a dolls house) therefore to show Santa she was ready for her big girl presents we posted her dummies to Santa along with her Xmas list. We left them on the fireplace so that the elves could magic it up the chimney when we were asleep. She never cried or asked for a dummy. First night she got up twice for the 'toilet' but after that was fine. Dd also got a letter back from Santa congratulating her on being such a big girl and saying he was proud of her.

Got my idea from a friend who whilst in Argos buying her daughter a peppa pig toy told her that it cost her £5 and her dummy. Woman @ the till went along with it and took the dummy as payment. When her daughter asked for her dummy at home she told her to go fetch peppa toy and they would take it back to shop to swap for dummy. Her daughter decided she wanted peppa more!!
