Sleeping through the night

Just a general question really, when do babies tend to sleep through most of the night? Is there anything I can do to help achieve this? I'm not expecting it at the moment obviously as mine is only 4 weeks old (first time mum) but just would be handy to know for future reference and what other people have done!

Thanks! :-)

Well I read in one paediatric study that 50% of babies still have night wakings at 12 months old, regardless of how they're fed. My 6 month old is bresst fed and still wakes regularly. Both my sister and I were bottle fed in the 70s. Sis slept through at 8 weeks old. Me, not til I was almost 3! It just depends on the baby. Some are good sleepers. Others struggle. Hope you will have a good sleeper op!

I breastfed until 6 months and she slept from 7pm-4am fed and then slept again until 7am. She properly slept through at 9 months.
She just did it on her own one night so I just didn't feed her in the night after that. If she woke in the night I'd go in, pick her up, settle her and put her back down. Magic!
Sleepless nights don't last forever, I can remember feeling like they would Smile

I don't think there is a set answer, sorry. both of mine breastfed - DS2 slept through from 6 weeks, DS2 is 8 months old and still wakes up at least 3 times a night. I am longing for a full nights sleep, but also amazed at how little, sleep I can now survive on!

DS1 was the great sleeper - although now at nearly 4 he has started getting up in the middle of the night and coming to our room - usually just as I have finished putting no2 back to sleep - not impressed!
