Blankie question (probably a stupid question!)

I'm thinking of introducing a blankie to help my DS go to sleep/stay asleep etc, having heard about other people's success with it, but (and this is going to sound really stupid...) what do you actually do with it? Do you cuddle it between your body and the baby while you feed him so that it has your scent, and then put it into the cot with the baby at chest level?
Any advice gratefully received :)

just give it to your baby at naptime, cuddle time etc. i didn't need to do anything to introduce it. DD decided for herself that she loved blankie. DS chose a monkey as his comforter. it may be that your DS won't want a blankie - but if you are keen, then introduce it at cuddle / sleepy time and try to get him to hold it. DD used to rub it against her face from very young as she loves the feeling of things against her skin. the good thing about blankies is that you can have many of them on the go at the same time if you start early enough with it. cut it into small bits and keep rotating them so that one doesn't become favoured - in case it gets lost or for when it will need washing.

I have four on a wash and use rotation. DD has the Minnie mouse ones from the Disney store online. They do lots of different ones, but all a lovely soft velour type fabric with satin ribbon trim, perfect.

You'll find your ds has far more of a say in it than you do.

My dd adores her blankie and wouldn't be without it. I wasn't even intending for her to have a blankie - she just became massively attached to the cellular blanket I used to cover her with as a baby. (She is now 5 and I can see her having a sneaky cuddle with it on the sofa now).

My son - I tried everything and he just never developed a particular attachment to anything. I persevered with some things for months... and nothing. He's just not a blankie sort of boy.

We use cheap blankies from Matalan, as they wash and tumble dry if necessary
Bought 3 and just swap them round as necessary. DS never really needed it "scented" which is good as they need washed almost daily due to copious dribble!

ahta - my dd is nearly 12& still has her blankie on her bed.She slepswith it on occasion & when she is tired or stressed (just finished SATs) she almonst massages it.It's lovely really :o
