HELP!! My 15 week old will not nap in the day. Cries inconsolably and nothing will calm him and he will not sleep even though he is beside himself with tiredness. Any suggestions?

Have you tried swaddling?

My DS1 was like that, he would scream and scream because he was so overtired but wouldn't go to sleep. In the end I spent an intensive week where I sat by his crib at nap times and susshed and patted and soothed and sang until he was calmer and after about a week I had some joy with getting him to sleep. After about a month I could put him down and he would go to sleep.

I didn't follow a particular book or anything, just having spoken to friends I figured he needed a quick morning nap and a decent lunch time nap so worked to that. He became a much happier baby all round once he was getting some regular sleep in the day. It was a tough few weeks but worth it. He is 2 now and is a great sleeper.

I did swaddle him too, but only when he was younger, probably not past about 12 weeks.

swaddling works! Have only just started with my 3 month old as we were having the same problems.. didn't think she liked it but it really does work

I had this when DS was 5-9 weeks. I spent a lot of my day crying with frustration. I'd tried swaddling before but he hated it. Tried it again one night and it worked like a dream! I swaddle him for day naps in his cot and night sleeps. He's 13 weeks now. Hope you manage to get his sleep sorted soon.

My DD (three months) is the same, fights the sleep when she becomes over tired! Her moses basket/cot now barely has a purpose as I bought a Moby Wrap sling for the day naps and co-sleep at night, get 8 hours sleep on a good night, and can actually do housework in the day! Grin (We are also both a lot happier being so close all the time)
