Ski and snowboarding

can you recommend an all purpose ski jacket for my DP?

My DP is always cold and wet in winter and since I am forcing him to go skiing next year for the first time I thought I'd buy him a winter jacket for his birthday that he could also use for skiing. I'm not really up on makes/styles for men and can only think of North Face, Helly Hansen etc from what have seen other blokes wearing. Any other recommendations? Needs to be all things to all men - waterproof, hood, warm, skiing, casual but also ok over suit for work etc etc. Any ideas? What do you/yourDHPs have? Thanks

If you want something for use off the slopes then TNF or HH is a good choice. Go for Goretex and breathable with a fleece layer under neath if needs be(TNF do a 3 in one which may suit) Depends on budget though as you'd easily be looking 100+ for those. Also look at Salomon, Killy and Tenson

thanks for the brand ideas - that's what I needed. 100ish is about what I was expecting to pay for an all round jacket.

Have a look in TKMaxx at the start of the season - they have lots of (presumably) last year's jackets, good brand names, at much better prices

good idea. His birthday is this weekend but he says he doesn't mind waiting.

Trespass do a good range at very reasonable prices. It might be worth paying a wee bit extra for a "3-in-1" so that he can get more waer out of it. My dh often uese his feelce inner as a jacket in spring/autumn.

That's a good point prettybird. If you are near a Trespass outlet store you could get a real bargain too. got dd a nice, very functional, jacket and salopettes in Clarks Village last year for under £20

TK Maxx often has Trespass as well.
