coronavirus in france

Hi
I was wondering if anyone is going to ski in France over half term?
and if so, are you worried about coronavirus, after the confirmed cases of British nationals getting the virus in a French ski chalet?

We are trying to decide whether we should still go or cancel, and want to know if I'm overreacting to the news. Many thanks for your response.

I think you're overreacting. It won't be long before it's everywhere so no point changing plans.

Are you going to Les Contamines?

Ex and the kids are going, it wouldn't occur to me to be concerned. They aren't going to that resort.

If you're not going to that particular resort I don't think I'd be overly concerned to be honest.

They didn’t catch it from a ski chalet ! They caught it from a person who had caught it in Singapore. You can catch it anywhere , it’s a tiny amount of people in France who have it , it wouldn’t even cross my mind to cancel.

Would you cancel if you heard there was an outbreak of flu in France? If not then no, you shouldn't cancel.

It is concerning. It is worth reiterating that it was an English family who live in Les Contamines Mont Joie (and go to school also in Saint Gervais Les Bains) who had relatives and friends visit them including one who contracted the virus while in Hong Kong. This traveller has also been linked to quarantines in Brighton.

Thanks everyone for your responses.
We are going to a different resort. I understand the man caught it in Singapore and brought it to France and back to Brighton before being diagnosed.
Frankly, I'm not so worried about the destination as the chances are low to have another super spreader in another French ski resort.
I worry more about travelling. The super spreader had no clue he was infectious and was on an Easyjet flight.

But then, on the other hand, we live in London and take the tube so the risk is probably just the same. and yes, part of me also thinks that if it's going to be anywhere, other than good hygiene, we may not be able to avoid it so might as well go and enjoy (and bring hand sanitizer on the plane).

I wouldn't be going to an airport personally and neither would I be mixing with large groups of people but I accept that I'm in the minority. Given that you live in London and use public transport and that we've apparently now got schools being closed in the UK (Southampton) I'm not sure you're any safer here (unless you stay at home of course)

We're going to Les Contamines on Saturday... been looking forward to this week for ages. Don't feel that we'll be at more risk there than in UK.

Mamapossum - wow I would’ve been quite worried about going to les contamines even if rationally it shouldn’t make a difference as everything would be disinfected and everyone relevant quarantined.

I agree - going to a ski resort feels safer than staying in densely populated London

Hi I live in Brighton so it’s already here - think I would be more stressed otherwise!

Also slightly hoping that some people might be put off travelling there and so the lift queues might be shorter! :D

My friends in China now and she said as reported most people who’ve died have had underlying issues and that the vast majority have recovered like normal flu

Not sure if that’s true but she’s not worried and she lives there!
