What’s your all time favourite resort and why?

What made you love it so much and who would you recommend it for?

Sauze d'Oulx, Italy. Been 4 times and would go back in a heartbeat.

Great ski area (400km in the Via Lattea), can easily ski to a number of linked resorts. Never busy or crowded on the slopes.
Great intermediate skiing - most runs are reds (some of which would be blue in France).
Great mountain restaurants and cafes (wood fired pizza for lunch).
Cheap food on the mountain.
Lovely town, with nice bars and restaurants (has a reputation as a 'party town' but I've never thought of it like that).
Short, easy transfer from Turin.
Just a lovely place to be. We've been as a couple; with friends and their children; and with a large group of adults. Works perfectly well for all of them.

A few down sides...
Not great for total beginners. Ok for children/fast learning adult beginners, but not nervous ones. There's only 1 accessible blue, so it's hard to find places to practise.
Lift system can feel slow/old. But that's offset by the fact it's quiet.
Hard to get to by public transport. Train from Turin (centre) to Oulx is easy, but you still have a taxi or bus either side of the train.

I think the slow lifts is a general issue in The French/Italy border resorts - they do need some investment.
Might investigate that resort another year it sounds great.

I think you're right. Although the lifts in Montgenevre (at the opposite end of Via Lattea to Sauze) were new and fast, I seem to remember.

I don't mind the slower lifts, as you never have to queue. I'd rather sit on a lift for a break than stand jostling in a queue with everyone else for ages before whizzing up the mountain. Although modern lifts with heated seats are rather lovely...

Alta Badia in the Dolomites as area, Corvara as resort.

Love Italy. Love how the Dolomites look. Bombadinos. Fantastic food. Well groomed pistes. Loads of snowmakinf. Cheaper than France. Loads of cruisey blues in Corvara.

Whistler. Whistler and Whistler. It has it all. There is no out of bounds. The people are lovely. The snow is deep. The terrain is varied. It’s big. I just love it there.

I am done with Italian resorts with creaking lifts and short runs, although they have their charm. I guess I’ve only been to the busier ones though and waited 45 minutes for a run that is deserted and over in 3 minutes

The weather has done everything to us, so if you only like sun, depends if you’re stuck to school hols. I expect you’d miss a day or two, but that’s my Xmas and Easter skiing experiences.

If you do have kids, the lessons are second to none. 4 in a class GPS tracking. Technical focus. Brilliant.

La Rosiere, France. Been several times. Fully booked this xmas though. Darn. Should have booked earlier.

Family friendly, small resort, not usually too busy (at xmas). The teens (16 and 14 now) love it.

I loved Livigno. It was sunny all the time and the town is gorgeous. I'd go back there any time except the transfer was horrendously long which is why it tends to be cheaper.
Didn't like Sauze sorry - felt like brits abroad.
Kitzbuhel was the typical alpine village and what a ski resort should look like so my favourite from that point of view. However the skiing wasn't as good as other places!
I think everywhere has positives and negatives. I'd never go back to the same place twice though - why would you when there's so many places to explore?

I’m with yeahyeah all the way !!! My kids learned to ski there - we’ve been about 8/9 times Easter or Christmas the ski lessons for he kids were amazing! Very quickly off piste the whole Mountain in play for the kids (apart from they are limited to only a few double blacks without a special waiver - until they move into the teen classes). So much so that my youngest is going on a school trip next season and the focus is on safety and pisted runs only - it’s just not the same (but fully understandable). We’ve never been rained off in Whistler biggest problem has been significant snow fall which made skiing difficult!. Ski lessons for kids are typically all day 8:30 to 3 which doesn’t seem to go down well here but we put ours in from age 4 and it worked really well.

My eldest DD9 did a double blank diamond last time. I, did not!

I also love the fact the queues are polite and calm. People chat you and give you local knowledge. I’ve only been for 5 weeks and haven’t managed to ski it out. I agree twice to a big resort is often enough, small resorts I’d not return. Whistler, I’d live to live there

I loved Ischgl and Galtur in Austria. Also Mayrhofen. I’ve skied in Italy, the US, Switzerland and Austria and just love Austria, it’s more or less their national sport, the facilities are always good.

Courchevel 1650

The best of those I've been to so far, though we are trying Mottaret this year.

Courchevel has lots going on and loads of different types of runs. The free lifts on the nursery slopes for the kids is a big win for us. Lots of fun for everyone
Plus the Automotion (think it's called that) the huge swim centre down the valley is brilliant, you can get to it by just taking them escalators down!!!!

Flavhau, Austria and any of the surrounding resorts. I’ve skied there since I was a kid and I can’t imagine going anywhere else now. There’s plenty of variety, lots of challenging runs, nice restaurants and good apres ski. Taking my one year old in a couple of weeks, just hope she loves it as much as I do!

I can never decide on my one fav resort, I like different resorts for different reasons and I always like to discover new ones.

Italy is always a winner for me as runs quiet, locals are friendly, food is great and always good value. The dolomites are just spectacular.
