Ski and snowboarding

So I've been on a ski holiday last year. I had a few lessons before at snow centre. I was rubbish on ski hooray. That's fine.

I am going again to Austria this week. I've been having ski lessons at the local snow centre again and simply can't get to do parallel turns or even have the confidence to go faster.

The slope at the ski centre is described as a hard blue run.

Any tips on how to get past this plateau?

I couldn't do parallel turns after a week! I don't know what you're worrying about.

Get out onto the snow and you'll be fine.

I think those snowdome places are pretty daunting, I’ve been a couple of times and they were so busy and there’s a huge audience if you fall over! They’re great to learn the basics but they’re also not great for confidence.
For Austria, focus on having fun! If you’re smiling and enjoying taking a run at your pace then don’t worry too much about your technique, that will come in time. I don’t know if you’ve already booked lessons but if you haven’t then consider private, it will make the world of difference. Also, rent skis on the shorter side, they’ll be easier to get into a turn.

Your expectations are too high for an adult learner. You can’t expect to be parallel turning after one holiday and a few trips to the snow dome unless you’re a child or very naturally able. Keep going; you are doing the right thing by keeping up practice between holidays.
You will read all sorts of guff about being on reds by the end of the week 1 etc but people have misty memories or may just be lucky. Just keep trying: it will come but may take longer than you hoped. In any event it will be worth it in the end.

Agree with pp - lots of people will brag about doing reds/blacks in their first week but don't appreciate that to do so is largely a matter of confidence rather than skill, and that their technique will be shite. Go at your own pace and stick with what feels comfortable to you. Agree with a pp that a private lesson or two may help. Whatever you do, take the time to stop on the slopes, look around and enjoy the stunning scenery. For me, it's as much about that as the skiing itself.

Just go aiming to get down nice tree lined greens and easy long blues...slow.skiing enjoying the scenery...group or private lessons. I can't do.consistent parallel after two weeks but I will still.go again...I know I can get down a blue even if I resort to snow plough turns....
