I'd personally now just wait until nearer the time to choose a resort, particularly bearing in mind the poor snow start to the season. Just had a text from friends near Chamonix who say certain runs have closed in the last few days as no real snow fall in a while.

If you really want somewhere now, would go for resort with plenty alternative activities, certainly NOT a resort like Flaine or Avoriaz with no character.

I would reccommend St Foy, La Rosierre in France or La Thuile in Italy as there is plenty of snow there

Samoens serves the Flaine ski area but is a pretty village in itself by all accounts with other activities going on.

Not far from Geneva - maybe 1.5 hrs.

Ste Foy, la Rosiere and La thuile are a bit too far from Geneva. Look at a ski resort map, must be over 100 resorts within 90 minutes of Geneva. This one is for French resorts. There are plenty of resorts in Switzerland too within a 90 minute train ride, the maximum you would pay return transfer from Geneva is approximately 100 return, children under 15 go free with adults on this Swiss transfer ticket.

PS no good choosing a resort NOW with snow as there is no guarantee there will be that same snow there at Easter!! That's why it might be a good idea, if the flights are cheap now, to book them now, then wait till closer to the time to book the resort.

Also, some ski resorts nearer Geneva a lower in height than ones further south such as la Rosiere, but their snow record is not inferior as Mont Blanc creates a sub-climate where snow falls at a lower altitude there. So don't judge a resort on height alone.

Agree about waiitng till nearer the time and see the snow situation - we have been to Morzine @ Easter and had enough snow on the mountain, but the runs into the resort had minimal snow, and the day we arrived i was actually raining...

Alos this year Easter is about as late as it can be, so more iffy.
