Hiding threads in Trending?

When I hide a thread it is often because I find it distressing.

However, I am continually reminded of it when it keeps coming back in Trending.

Please could hidden threads also be hidden in Trending?

Thanks for raising this, we do understand your concerns.

The Trending box shows the five threads with the most page views at any given time. So while Mumsnetters are able to hide individual threads from their own list of Active Conversations, unfortunately hidden threads may well still crop up in the Trending box.

If you hit the refresh button on the box, you'll find the threads will change pretty frequently.

I refresh a lot, they still keep coming back.

Another annoyance is that the threads I have opened in Trending no longer change colour, so I often find I am seeing the same one over and over which also brings up the same threads I am trying to avoid. It was easy when they changed colour, could just ignore anything I had read.

If it isn't possible to hide hidden threads could you reinstate the colour changed links we had before?

I have just hidden the coronavirus thread. I am on the verge of tearing my hair out from all the same threads over and over, I DON'T WANT TO SEE THEM.

But, there they are, people guessing and gloom mongering all over Trending. I am likely to be without a home if the scenario is as bad as they keep saying and I don't need it thrown at me non-stop. What is the point of creating a topic for it and then shoving it in everyone's faces?

I come here to get away from all that shit, but I can't hide it, so what is the point of hidden threads?

If you can't fix it so we can hide threads in Trending can you fix it so we can hide Trending?

I came onto Site Stuff to ask about the Trending algorithm. Is there a way to prevent zombie threads appearing in trending? I know there’s no (desirable) way to completely stop people posting on zombie threads but it’s becoming increasingly common to see them in Trending. People don’t look at the date of the OP and you can’t see the topic trending posts are in. The snapped and farted one has raised its head yet again and yet more people are piling onto it and commenting based on the OP alone. So very annoying.
