I am interested in the feminist discussions but I'm dismayed that almost thread in this section seems to be about trans issues. I understand that these are vitally important issues which need to be discussed but it feels like its to the exclusion of anything else in that section.

Would it be possible to restructure the topics somehow so that there is a section for the trans debate?

Hi there ADarkandStormyKnight. Yes, it is true that there are an awful lot of threads on one topic in FWR at the moment. Obviously, it's a topic that is high on the agenda for many women at the moment, so it's to be expected to an extent, but we do see that it's a bit off-putting if you wanted to discuss something else.

Having said that, please don't feel put off starting a thread on another topic on the feminism boards. We know there's a lot of interest in particular issues at the moment but we're sure no one on the FWR boards wants that to be at the exclusion of all else, and other topics are as welcome as they ever were.

We have been asked a few times recently about introducing a separate area for threads about trans issues, but we've always come to the conclusion that it wasn't a good idea. The topics cover so many areas from so many viewpoints, we think it would be a bit pointless to lump them all in one place and could end up creating a bit of a ghetto, which wouldn't be in anyone's interests.

We do think that while sometimes there will be a spike in interest in a particular topic due to stories about it in the news, once a story moves on again, the boards tend to broaden out again in terms of subject matter. But as we said, please do feel free to start a discussion about something else if you want to. We're sure it would be welcomed.

Start threads which aren't about the problem of self-ID then - I'll join in if I have something to say Smile

I agree that a trans topic is not a good idea.

Thank you Hebe. I wouldn’t post in a “trans” section - because I fundamentally disagree this is a “trans” issue but rather a women’s rights issue. I am not trans, I cannot speak for or against any trans issues, but I am a woman and I’d like to be consulted on things that affect the definition of “woman”.

I think we’d all like the issue not to be top of the boards, to be honest, because then it would mean it had gone away as a threat!

True. We're all Neil from the Young Ones: "Oh no, I wish this wasn't happening!"

We're all very sorry we need to discuss the erasure of women's rights. And we do so on the Feminism/Women's Rights board.

I don’t think this is a trans issue and wouldn’t post on a trans sub forum. This is a crisis which impacts every area of womanhood and deserves to be heard in the Feminism boards but also across Mumsnet’s wealth of topics as a whole.
