thread deleted - is there no pre warning to the OP?

A thread I started has been deleted. I am not going to discuss it's subject as I do not want to generate or inflame further discussion. I am not disagreeing in principle with it's deletion. However I thought (never happened to me before in a decade on MN) that as the OP I'd get a 'look we're going to have to delete it' msg from HQ beforehand.

There were some posters I wanted to pm and thank, some info I needed to note down / screenshot. I now can't do that. I can remember some of it, but if I'd had a short warning that would have helped.

Is that not how it works then? If not, then ok, I'd just assumed if the OP wasn't a troll they'd get told first.

I think as it's the middle of the night the best thing to do is email :

Ok, I'll send an email but if it's not normal practice to forewarn that's that. Like I said never had a thread deleted before so didn't know.

Hi there,

It is not normal practice to email the OP or anyone on the thread. If a thread needs to go, then we tend to zap it. If you'd like a specific response, then please do mail in and we'll happily explain.

I'd email in privately to MN Op, maybe they can help you.

The thread needed deleting I'm glad they zapped it. I'm shocked it stayed up so long.
