Reports system.

I am just want to ask a question about reported threads.

It used to be that if you reported a thread you'd get an email back letting you know that the post in question has MNHQs attention.

I remember (I think) a post not long ago saying that we might get a generic email back as the amount of reports were swamping HQ,but I've not had anything back at all recently when I've reported a thread.

I would just like to know that the reports are getting where they need to be really.

TIA

It is now very much the exception rather than the norm that a report will be acknowledged by e-mail.

Here is the opening post from the thread announcing the change:

Hi all,

As you know, we rely on MNers to use the 'report' link if they spot anything untoward on the boards - and we very much appreciate it when you do. We want to be able to be more responsive to these reports generally, so we're going to stop sending individual acknowledgment mails for now; we think this will free up a fair bit of time which could be better spent elsewhere.

When you report a post, you'll now see this message:

Thanks very much for reporting this - we rely on your reports to make sure Mumsnet is a brilliant place to come for support and advice.

In order to best focus our efforts, we tend not to respond to reports individually - but be assured that we read every single one, and that we'll look into the problem as soon as possible.

And we'll be highlighting a few links to places you might want to go next.

We'll continue to mail folks directly as and when the need arises - and as mentioned, we'll be reading each and every report, come what may. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please do ask!

Thanks Zombie Flowers

I don't think this system is working TBHSad

When threads are very upsetting I think a bit more needs to be done.

Don't want to make this a TAAT as I have been wondering the last few times I've reported but that last thread makes me think that this system isn't working.

I'm thinking it's not working for me - I don't mind for a fairly obvious troll or insult I'm reporting but I sent a long report about something going into what I was worried about and have had no reply. One of the threads is still up and I'm assuming MNHQ don't agree. It would be nice to know they'd considered my concern and could reassure me though.

It has always taken yonks for HW to delete troll threads, even the most notorious ones, on a weekend night. No change there.

The change to the reports system hasn't changed the rate at which threads are dealt with so I can only conclude that MN HQ felt that it would be better not to communicate after reports therefore not being challenged on what they do/don't deal with.

TBH I think that AIBU and relationships is only inhabited by trolls, so if you take that approach then you won't be disappointed if the thread you've been posting on turns out to be bollocks.

Some threads are deleted really quickly but then others are left for so long & it starts getting abusive ,no confirmation of the reports has made me wonder if they are getting to HQ.

It has happened before that the system went wonkey and reports didn't get to them.
Just a generic "we've received your report" would help.

I agree and suggested the same thing on the thread from HQ that announced the change.
Earlier this year, around Easter holidays, the reporting system broke. People started to chase replies as they hadn't heard back from HQ and realised their report had been missed. This eventually alerted HQ to the fact that not all reports were getting through. with this new system that's not going to happen.

I can no longer see HQ's thread btw. I thought it would stay up and as a sticky for some time as users became familiar with the new system.

Hullo everyone,

Thanks so much for voicing your concerns. Reports are vital to us, so we want to make sure they're working for you and you're happy with how everything is going.

Once you've submitted a report to us, you should see a message on your screen that looks like the attached. So while you might not necessarily receive an email from us - you should get confirmation that you report has been sent and receive. We really do read every single report that you send us.

You receive no acknowledgment on the app, though, Kate. Surely it would be straightforward enough to have an auto email? Otherwise, you really have no idea whether the report has actually been sent or received.

I would like to ask - if you report a post as being a personal attack or similar, how long does it take for the post to be deleted, and does the person reporting it get an email or message to notify them of the deletion?

and if MN HQ decide the post doesn't warrant deletion, do they still let the person who reported it know?
