I name changed the other day to write a thread about something personal and potentially identifying.

I am now stuck and can't change back to my normal name.

Every time I fill it in, enter my password and hit "save changes" a blank page comes up and the tab reads //www.mumsnet.com instead of the usual title.

Help!

Name change not working has been reported here on Site Stuff for a few weeks now.
I was able to do it using an old version of IE (I usually use Firefox or Safari depending on device).

Hi wishywashywoo,

Sorry you had trouble with your namechanging - glad you got good advice and could get it sorted.

wishy, glad it worked for you althought it's odd because it won't work for me on Firefox!

FlissMumsnet it's not really sorted though is it? Confused. We're having to switch to a different browser in order to NC. As MN offers the facility to NC easily then we should be able to do so in popular browsers including Firefox, Chrome, Edge and Safari. If I'm using Firefox to browse MN, as I usually am, I shouldn't have to switch to an old device that has an ancient version of IE in order to NC.
Would appreciate an update on this as it's been going on for about 2 months now and HQ is definitely aware of it.

Hi folks, tech have asked if they could have some username examples - so what you were trying to change from/to - if you'd rather not say on this thread, could you report to us instead?

Hi wishy,

Dan from Tech here, we're really sorry this is happening, this one has really had us scratching our heads for a few days but we think we've finally found out what was causing this issue. It seems when on your account page and filling out information, if it autofills your postcode area it was adding in some extra spaces making the postcode longer than it should be. We're implementing a fix which should be released as soon as possible but for the time being if you need to change your username have a look at these sites on how to turn off autocomplete on your browser for the time being.

Google Chrome: support.google.com/chrome/answer/142893?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en
Firefox: support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/control-whether-firefox-automatically-fills-forms

Hope this helps change your username while the fix is being put in place.

I've just tried to change my username and I'm still getting the blank page :(

Morning wishy - have you managed to NC, or is it still blank?

Same problem here - I name-changed for a sensitive post a while ago, and I've not been able to get my 'old' name back. Every time I try, the current 'name' becomes invalid so I have to come up with another, and there is no way back from any of them (if I try, there's a red error message stating that the username is already in use - although it is in use by me!)
I use Firefox, if that helps. I just tried using IE, and couldn't log in at all Confused

Hi ladymacbeth,

So sorry that you're still having problems changing your name over. Can you have another try now please by going to the MyMumsnet account details page - type in the new (or old) username you want to change to, then take a look at the Postcode field - is anything entered there? If so, could you try erasing it, then hitting save. Hopefully, your new username will then be accepted.

Do let us know how you get on.

I was having problems with the blank page but it has just worked for me.
My email address was showing up in the postcode field so once I fixed that, it worked.

Glad to hear it, NeedAnotherGlass Smile

We're so sorry that this issue has taken so long to resolve.
