So is it the ads that are slowing down MN for me?

For the past few weeks MN has been so slow that I thought my mouse or computer was buggered. Is it the ads? Other websites seem fine (unless I also have MN open). I'm using either IE or Firefox on a laptop. Does MN only work well on other devices these days?

If it is, adblock doesn't fix it.

I think it's more like the sheer amount of scripted crap down the right hand side.

I have the same problem. Using explorer and quite often get the page not responding and my pic sounds like it's going to take off. iPhone ok though. It's made me cut down on my Mumsnet time.

Don't have a tablet or smartphone so can't try that. Okkito you're right, maybe I should just cut down on MN.

The ads, the Tech 'tinkering', the Tech 'fiddling'. I have no idea.

I don't have a problem with advertising; I don't have a problem with updating/new 'stuff'.

But I do have a problem with the slowness.

I came on here to see if anyone else was having problems with this today.

It's slow, and jumps around - when I type, it takes a few seconds for the words to appear. Then sometimes won't let me click...

I thought it was my computer, so I restarted it. Then I realised it's only MN that's doing this, other sites are fine.

It's really annoying, and I'm closing it down now.

It's that EE ad. Supposed to be animated, by the look of it but just jerks from one frame to another. The problem eases when the ad goes.

You're right Stick - its been working fine for me today, and just got the EE ad and it froze then started jumping around.

What a pain in the arse.

MNHQ do you actually give a shiny shit about this (or do I have to report my own thread to get you to look at it)?

And I see that bloody Cadburys ad is back to cause trouble again.

It's the ads. Disappears when you use adblocker.

And no apparently HQ don't care about ads these days. They just say they'll get tech to look at it and then tumbleweeds forever.

Thanks Bertie, will try an adblocker. How much ad money must MN be getting to make them risk pissing off users I wonder?

I don't know :( It never used to be like that.

Can anyone recommend an adblocker?
