(Bad form I know, but) Why was the Phil.S thread deleted?

Sorry for the thread about a thread, but I want to understand why that thread was deleted. Was there one comment in particular that was not ok, or was it the overall tone?

If the former... is that to suggest that we can't freely give opinions on MN anymore, about those who put themselves in the public's eye?

Hello. We just thought it was beyond the pale really.

We don't mind folks having robust opinions about what celebs say and do but the thread wasn't really much more than a stream of posts such as "He's scum" or "I fucking loathe the dickhead" or "repulsive little turd".

But surely those opinions are valid, even if they're not 'naice' ? No allegations were made, there wasn't anything defamatory or libellous said?

Would it have been different if we were slagging off less of a national institution/popular figure to the same degree?

I wondered that too, so I'm glad someone asked.
I like Phil and Holly so I was sticking up for them, some of the haterz were very funny, but it did cross a line I think.
They're only a couple of daytime tv presenters, not terrorists or mass murderers .

Probably because it was reported to us while other similar ones haven't been, to be honest! If someone reports something to us as being beyond the pale we'll take a look and form a judgement.
