Ads - Is Google now the provider of all ads?

What is happening with the Ads? They seem to be provided in large part by Google (they have the AdChoices logo) and those ads which do not have the logo have the link going to googleads.g.doubleclick

Does having Google serve the ads, rather than Mumsnet's own adsystem mean that Mumsnet has less control over what adverts are shown, more control and less effort (always a good thing), or is something just going weird with the ad system and it's defaulting to displaying Google Ads?

Have to say I actually like the contextual advertising generally. Sometimes it can throw up odd choices but it's great in general as it will throw up local ads, as it knows location data, what page the ad is showing on, plus other data it knows about browsing habits/searches.

If anyone is interested, you can Edit your Ad Preferences that Google/DoubleClick uses. For example if you find you are getting lots of ads about loans, you can remove the category: Finance - Credit & Lending - Loans - Home Financing - Mortgages

We are still booking most ads ourselves but it's true that we do have some provided by AdChoices.

We can - and do - restrict some of the ads AdChoices serves.

Um, can I point out the 'Compensation for Child Abuse' one? It's a google ad, so not one of yours, IYKWIM? I can't really express why but it made me slightly uncomfortable that this was coming up as an advert, like it was trying to say 'oh it's fine, claim compo' when there's a l
