Entered a comp and now a company that never emailed me before is emailing me...

Yet there's no mention of you giving them my email address in the T&C.

It seems a bit odd that I never ever get an email from hushhush and then as soon as I enter the hushhush comp - I start getting them.

Do you share our email addresses with companies when we enter competitions?

Of course they share info that's how they make money.

Keep sticking it in spam it will stop.

No, they say they don't Bossy.

Which comp was it, Hec?

So, which is it, HQ?

When was that Nick? Doesn't sound like HQ at all. Usually they are quite good at tracking that sort of thing down!

the hushhush one.

I am not accusing mnhq of anything, I promise Grin I am only asking.

timeline:-
never had an email from hushhush
enter mn comp to win £100 of hushhush store credit
start getting emails from hushhush

I put the two together Grin and so I decided to read the T&C to see if email is shared and it doesn't say it is, so I asked.

I just entered it as well, I'll keep you posted.

Just to check...you didn't actually join HushHush, right? Grin

Just unsubscribe from it.

I enter comps a LOT, and get around 1000 emails a day because of it, I just delete them!

Grin no. I didn't join them.

I did wonder if I could have done that! I am just about dozy enough to have done! Grin So I tried to log in and asked for a password reminder and got the message that the email address was not on the system. So no.

Thanks chops - I didn't know I could do that. Went back into the email and searched and right at the bottom in tiny writing Grin is a clickable link to unsubscribe.

I never subscribed in the first place! Confused

The t&cs explicitly say your details will only be used for the competition and then deleted, so this is very dodgy indeed, and definitely against the email marketing legislation, which says companies can only send email to people who opt in to receive them, unless there is a clear business relationship- which there clearly isn't.

Clearly, hush hush want the emails otherwise why do the comp, but they absolutely cannot send marketing mail you didn't opt in for.

Morning all.

Right, first off, we NEVER pass on your contact details to third parties without your prior permission. We are very very very careful about this, as we don't want to breach our own privacy policy (let alone the Data Protection laws).

The way our competitions work is like this: when you enter your details in the little boxes, you agree (as it says in the Ts & Cs) for your details to be passed on to the prize provider IF (and only if) you win. Your details go into a double-blind 'bucket' (ie no one can see them, including us). When the closing date for the comp has passed, the 'bucket' tosses out a winner (or winners) and your details are passed on to the prize provider. Everyone else's details are vaporised.

So, we are quite sure your mails from hushhush, Hecate, are coincidence, not conspiracy. The hushhush comp hasn't even closed yet, so no one can see anybody's details anyway.

Thanks, Helen.

At least it's not as bad as the time my pc suddenly started offering to find me lovely ladies from Russia.

I probably blamed you for that too Grin
