I am getting dodgy looking pop ups at the bottom of my screen. Only on Mumsnet pages. It's not appearing anywhere else. blue top, white main. just sliding up the page, offering things like "3 new driver updates", and sliding back down again, leaving the little blue top bar visible.

It's very annoying. I would have thought it was a virus - but it is only happening on mumsnet pages (I've been checking) so it's you!

Cease and desist forthwith.

Grin

I've got kaspersky, I thought that was supposed to be the bees knees? will kaspersky let me run another anti-virus?

Well, run that...if it's the bee's knees, how'd you get a virus?

That's my point exactly. It's supposed to be bloody brilliant. supposed to be being the key word.

Would it be totally paranoid of me to suggest that half the viruses are created by anti virus companies to make sure you keep giving them more of your money Grin

Nope, not paranoid at all. And why I use AVG Free.

Also, AdAware specifically targets ads and tracking cookies, so it might find something that whatever you're using doesn't.

Hi Hecate,

It's not us at Love messages Shock

I will see if Tech has any suggestions?

hecate Are you trying to blame MN on the fact that you have single Brazilian men, and columbian beauties wanting to meet you? Likely story Grin

Hi Hectate,

It sounds like adware to me, there's a couple of things you can try to get rid of it (assuming you're using a PC).

I'd disconnect from the internet and try going to 'Add or Remove Programs' in the Control Panel, sometimes this kind of adware will show up in the list of programs and you can just uninstall it like you would a legitimate piece of software. Look for any names what you don't recognise/look dodgy but be careful not to remove software you actually need/use!

If there's nothing obvious there I'd download a free program like Ad-Aware like Zombie suggested and run that to see if it picks up anything.

Hope that helps,

ColetteTech

will try the adaware, Z, thanks.

I did wonder why you were trying to fix me up, Rebecca Wink

Thanks colette. First thing I did was check to see if something had snuck on, but there doesn't seem to be anything. Will do as zombie suggests.

Forgive me for assuming you were trying to set me up with busty brazillions I should have known you save that for Fridays

Ditch Kaspersky and download AVG free.

It works far better and It's Free!

but but but... kaspersky comes as part of my business account package and they won't charge me less if I don't have it. And the skinflint in me resents paying for something I'm not using Blush

Have to do something though. Am truly pissed off. What's the point of an anti virus that doesn't stop stuff like this?

I feel a ranty phone call coming on Grin

Is your Virus info up to date? Does Kaspersky download updates regularly?

Report
ScrambledSmegsEvilTwin · 08/10/2012 17:17

Can you disable kaspersky? That might work,

Report
HecateLarpo · 08/10/2012 18:32

I'll give it a go.

Yes, it's up to date. regular updates.

For some reason, it just can't see this - thing. Whatever it is. Very odd.
