The daffodil

Now that St David's day has been and gone, could we keep the daffodil, but re-name it, so that instead of typing [ stdavids ], we type [ mariecurie ], as a reminder of the symbol for their charity?

Hello. Thanks for the suggestion. Anyone else agree?

Agree about Will Young as well as the daffodil!

I second Withgoat's point about Will Young, as well as agreeing with the suggestion about the daffodil.

Is the daffodil coming back? I'm sorry to see it's gone today.

why would you need a Marie Curie Emoticon?

I was about to post what withagoat did - where would it end?

why should a (undoubtedly worthwhile and fantastic) charity ahve an emoticon?

what would it be used for?

and, mor eimportantly, where would it end?

Pudsey? Red Nose day? A jigsaw piece for autism? Breast cancer twiddly thing? Poppy?

there are loads of charity/illness emblems, but why would we have any available to use in chat?

I don't personally see why charities need emoticons TBH. And I don't think that you caould support one charity without supporting others.

Using the daffodil for St Davids Day, just as the shamrock is being used for St Patrick's Day today, is one thing. I can't see any situation personally where I would need to say "Marie Curie" in a post but would want to express it using an emoticon.

because it is a charity that was/is being advertised on MN.

And what's wrong with using something like that to remind people?

And you wouldn't have to use it!

ah don't sigh Because.

Twould be rather pointless is all. When would you ever need to say MC via a symbol, or Cancer Research/Oxfam come to that. Besides which folk would think you were still wishing them a Happy Davids Day, which would be vair confusing and potentially embarassing

... or they might just think I was offering them a lovely bunch of flowers, in the way that people get offered Wine or Brew!

Or even Bear ...

well if it represents a nice bunch of flowers, then I may be more inclined to agree....

Didn't know you could still do Bear

I'd rather not have it.

I think a lot of people come on MN to escape from stuff in real life and seeing the daffodil all the time is a bit in your face if you're trying not to think about cancer... JMHO of course...

...and then as others have said, where does it stop with the charity emoticons.
