I went off social media for a while and come back to find loads of middle-aged instagrammers with luxury lifestyles and skinny bodies. Is it all like that now? I might go on Reddit instead 🤷

As an outsider who has never set foot on Instagram I probably shouldn't judge, but the people who tend to live on it seem quite removed from reality and seem to get in lots debt trying to live up to other influencers (£25 quid for a yummy mummy t-shirt and all that gullible crap),or as an influencer spend loads trying to create a false image in the hope that it pays off and they become one of the lucky ones who make lots of money.

In other words, it is just an alternative advertising stream for the insecure and gullible.

However as someone who hasn't been on it I could be wrong, and yes, there are positive aspects to it, but it looks like in a personal level you aren't finding any. Lots of threads on here tell me I'm not too far off the mark!

Instagram, in my experience is whatever you want it to be. There's accounts on practically anything a person could possibly be interested in looking at: brutalist architecture, steam trains, embroidery, pansies, beaches, antique jewellery. You could follow thousands of accounts and never see a human being.
