Sex

Does the turned on feeling change as you get older?

I remember being in my late teens and when I was with someone I wanted them badly. I can recall the intensity of it and how I almost burned down there from wanting it so much. I know that is a bit of a crap cringy description but I can't think how else to articulate it.

And now in my late thirties I still love sex but I dont get that intense burning feeling anymore. It's just more muted and I miss it. I orgasm most of the time during sex and I am aware that I am fortunate that is the case but I feel sad to think that those intense feelings are in the dim and distant past. Ironically it took me ages to orgasm back then but I think that was more not knowing my body and being with inexperienced guys.

Has anyone found the same?

Yes, me.

I was only thinking this the other day. I remember being able to feel incredibly turned on when I was younger, but now not so much.

I put it down to being a tired mum who can never fully switch off and relax these days. I enjoy it but it's rarely spontaneous these days either.

Similar kind of situation here. Could never orgasm in my younger years when I was with previous inexperienced partners.. My long term partner has been the only person who has been able to make that happen!

Not just me then? I find it ironic that we are really turned on when younger but incapable of orgasm and then when we have better partners and are more clued up on how our bodies work we just dont feel it as much. So not fair

I think it's to do with hormones. I remember thinking about sex all the time in my early twenties. Literally all the time. Now I'm in my mid thirties, significantly less. Like barely at all in comparison.

I think the hormones theory is absolutely true. I was ridiculously horny when I was pregnant. I wish I was still like that sometimes because it was a great stress reliever Grin

Yes same thing here. I put it down to being with dh such a long time, as I definitely got at that feeling with him in the beginning. But maybe it is just age?

I'm 34 and been with DH 17 years, and I remember getting the rush off horniness when we first started out but have to agree with you all that feeling has certainly subsided over the years, but we have great sex so I'd take that over the butterflies any day of the week

A few years back I went on antidepressants and for nearly a week I was mad for it. Constantly aroused. That feeling down there, constant wide on. All I could think about was sex. Dh couldn't even handle it. I was sad when the feeling went but it was a bit of a relief too. I remember thinking, I hope this is what 40s/50s will be like.

Ooh which anti depressants Sorrel ? Grin. Seriously though. I have read they mainly have the opposite effect.

About forty years ago two people met, both after sexless marriages, and yes, it was like our younger days.

Evolution uses amazing sex to bond, flattens out a bit but maintains the link.

And I do fancy her often but age has decided it now faces in the wrong direction!!! Wink

In my 40's and frequenly the most turned on I have ever been. Can't say if it comes back so to speak because Ive never had this, but it certainly can be intense. Add in experience and maturity and it can be very satisfying too.

In late 30s and yep I sound similar to you. Hormones are different for all of us - I just read that 1% of women have menopause before 40!
