Anyone with an offer from a Richmond Borough school, does your letter include the cut off distances for all the schools? Please post a photo or a list of all the distances if you have them. Thanks!

Don’t know about the other schools but the catchment distance for Orleans Park is much closer than in previous years (1.6k in 2019 and 1.5k in 2018).

The schools are going to be under even more pressure as children from the two new primaries, Twickenham Primary Academy and Deer Park, start to transfer to secondary. They opened in 2015 didn't they? Does that mean they transfer in 2022 or have I got it wrong?

Hampton juniors has an extra class in year 3 now so the pressure will be even more in 2023.

Orleans Park’s GCSE results are higher than the local fee-paying schools. They’re all incredible schools, just suit different children.

I guess the extra schools will make a slight difference yet in previous years they used to just have bulge classes so I’m not sure how much numbers have increased. Also wonder if proportion of state kids is increasing and private schools not increasing from this area - if not decreasing for secondary as state secondaries improve. Interested to see any data.

I live in Chiswick, near the river, which is borough of Hounslow.... my neighbours DC has got a place at Richmond Park academy. It's 1.5km as the crow flies... over the river from us.

Bronte, absolutely! In recent years there have been new state primaries and secondaries, and I've seen private primaries expanding too, but as far as I know there hasn't been a new private secondary in the area since Radnor House opened. I've heard that even the low-prestige private secondaries are very oversubscribed, so no longer a sure safety net for people hedging their bets with the state sector. Also, the less popular state secondaries have all improved, so fewer people are fleeing them.

There will be a new secondary opening in Mortlake at some point which will help I guess: www.richmondandtwickenhamtimes.co.uk/news/18198418.mortlake-stag-brewery-development-go-ahead-council-approval/

Hi My daughter did not get place in her choice of schools and has been offered a place in a school that she doesn't want to go to. What is the rate of success with appeals on the grounds of commuting, bullying and safety of the child. Please advise

Jaspar the local council's schools prospectus used to have tables showing how many appeals were brought and won last year for each school but I think it might be on the individual school websites now instead. It's worth a look on their admissions pages. I've heard not many people win appeals, but if you start a separate thread with "I need appeal advice" in the title there's some very experienced people on Mumsnet who might help you to work out if you have a case.

I know this thread has not been posted on for over a year but if anyone received an offer from a Richmond Secondary does your letter have the cut off distances listed for this year? Very interested in Orleans, Richmond upon Thames and Christ's and anyone's experiences with them this year. Orleans is our nearest co-ed non denominational at 1.59km. Thanks in advance!!

But there is usually some waiting list movement before September. These are the distances for September 2020 after waiting list movement: www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/730334/response/1740203/attach/html/3/FOI%20Response%20AfC%20184%202021%20Sawyer%20Richmond%20Schools.xlsx.html

Hi @ClaudieM. Whilst the cut-off for Orleans was 1.282km in March, there was a lot of movement in April; a few kids in my DCs class were given places at that point. It must’ve moved to over 1.5km (which will also have meant RTS distance increased as they released RTS places).

I suspect with your distance for next year you will be able to get an Orleans place, but it may not be on the initial offers day.

I think there’s a lot of movement on waitlists in our borough as many people are taking up private places, or end up moving after the allocation day.

Thanks all. Was hoping pressure on Orleans might ease up this year but doesn't look like it. Richmond Upon Thames currently looks more likely.

Hi All,
We are moving to Twickenham and need to decide on secondary schools for year 7.

I need help on two topics:
1- Are the published cut-off distances calculated using footpath distance or are they fly over distances? I know the admissions are done using footpath distance, so it should be published as it is but I want to be sure about it as it will affect our list.
2- Our relocation should be a little late than 31 October. I read the borough website and read the instructions for movers. if anyone experienced a situation like this, is there anything that I should concern about?

Thanks in advance

  1. Yes.
  2. if you're a late applicant, you won't get an offer on March 1st. But if you're moving close enough to be high on the waiting list don't worry as there are always more offers after this date.

There are final cut off distances for Sept 2021 published here: www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/787633/response/1886523/attach/html/3/FOI%20Response%20AfC%2084%202122%20Sawyer.xlsx.html
