GCSE certificate - really basic question

DS took his GCSEs in summer 2018 and picked up his results that were on a print out from his school - he has now gone to College, but it just occurred to me that presumably I need to organise to get an actual certificate with his results on - and googling, you seem to need to get a separate certificate from the individual exam boards - but the exam board websites only seem to have information about getting replacement certificates. Obviously I can email them, but I'm wondering if they do eventually get posted to us anyway or do they come in to the school maybe?

School receive them. Ours are given at prize giving in the December or the student needs to collect from school.

Contact the school. They should have them in by now. They may post them to you but you will probably need to collect them as most schools like them to be signed for.

Both of the schools my daughters attended sent out information about calling in to collect the certificates in November. If they weren't collected then plans had to be made to send them out. I would contact his old school to see what has happened to them.

I worked in a secondary school
They are kept in large folders
Some go back 20 years!

He needs to go and get them

Yes, I had to collect from his school. They put something about it on the website but didn’t notify past pupils individually. In fact, DS had to collect them or authorise me to in a letter or email and they had to be signed for.

My DCs had to go to the school to collect them in person but obviously schools won't all have the same rules - ring them and ask

Students need to sign for them here too. I thought it was a regulation

Huh. I never got mine, despite going to the same school's sixth form. I've just got a dot-matrix printout of my grades.

They will be sent to school and need collecting or posting out. Each school has their own rules about who can collect etc, no specific requirements set by the exam board there.

You can also order replacements from the exam board directly but this is chargeable.

For anyone who hasn't collected them yet - do so, you will need proof of the English maths etc for future jobs so will need them.
