We seem to have some massive intakes planned locally for the next few years and I am just wondering if 10 form entry is normal nowadays?

That’s usual in most schools in our city.

330, 11 forms, has been for many years. Last year they took 350 in 12 forms but they can't do that every year due to lack of space.

4 forms for secondary!? Thats diddy!

That’s 10 form entry.

I’ve gone out of my way to make sure that none of mine go to a primary school larger than two form entry or a secondary school larger than four form entry. I think children get lost in the very large institutions. I much prefer something on a human scale where names are known etc.

Around 210 around here, 180 at DDs grammar, and 165 in area moving to.

Wow, that's huge. DS's grammar is 6 form entry, 180 boys. When I went they were 4 forms only.

8 forms 220 pupils. All the other secondaries near by are the same.

  1. They have an interesting vertical tutor group system so tutors only have 4 or 5 new children each year, houses for pastoral care (so each tutor group belongs to a house) and then teaching sets which gives lot of personal support

Most schools where I live take around 130. The biggest one by far takes about 180.

Ours does vertical tutor group as well which seems to work well.

Battleax l went to a 1.5 entry PS and 10 entry HS and the bigger HS was so much better. The PS was suffocating and I couldn't wait to leave.

I made the same mistake with dd1, there is about 25 kids in her y2 and it's tiny and i think suffocating for her.

Bigger doesn't need to mean it's not personalised. I can assure you all my teachers in HS knew my name!

Most here (Bucks) are around 180 a couple 200 / 210.

Around here,
175, 7 forms tough comp
150, 5 forms grammar
245, 9 form comp
300, 10 form comp
90, 4 form rural comp.

Bigger schools often have 2 bands, splitting the school into 2 populations and you have lessons with others from your band. Makes the school seem half the size as you only have to get to know half the pupils.

My DCs school has either 250 or 275 intake I think.
