secondary waiting lists

Hi
I hope someone can answer this for me..
We didn't get any of our three preferences and unfortunately we didn't put the nearest school down (I know), as it's not great. Problem is we now have been allocated an inner city failing school which is 6 miles away with no transport.
if I put DS on the waiting list for our first choice but also on the waiting list for the nearest school which apparently we can now do, and a place comes up at the nearest school first, will we have to accept it and will they automatically then take us of the waiting list for the 1st choice?
We are also planning to appeal for the first choice.
thanks

No each application for a place on the waiting list is separate, so it should make no difference if you get an offer of the local school. But I would check and confirm that you are still on the waiting list, because some LAs do very different things to do with waiting lists.

Thanks both, that was really helpful. I've rung the LEA this morning and they've confirmed that we'd still stay on the waiting list for our first choice regardless of accepting another place. Also that when you appeal (which we are doing for our first choice) they automatically place you on the waiting list for that school.
Obviously we've still got to go through that process which is a bit of a lottery, and we won't know where we are on each waiting list until about 21st March apparently.
Trying to be positive about it all though and just do what we can.
Thanks again Smile
