Hoping to hear from Taunton School, day or boarder parents, and also about Kings College which looks good on website but in reality....?? - from yr9 .
What's Kings College like for day pupils? Do they have bursaries to top up scholarships? Looking for a friendly inclusive happy school for ds. Also any idea on which are the best state schools.
any views? Thanks

Hi school hunter,

The state schools in Taunton are all mostly good. The top two would be castle and bishop foxes followed by Heathfield.
Castle is a lot bigger than foxes so that's something to bear in mind.
They are all over subscribed so your choice will be limited depending on where you live. To put it in context only 6 children out of catchment where offered a place at castle last year.
Stay away if can from the academy (it has a bad reputation.) many due to it location and therefore it's intake.

Taunton school and kings both offer scholarships and are well regarded in the area. As is Queens.

Hope that's helps

There are 3 independent schools in Taunton - all are co-ed, all will offer scholarships and bursaries. King's and Taunton are more boarding schools which take day pupils, whereas Queen's has fewer day pupils. Academic, sport, music and drama are excellent at all of them. We chose King's because it is different as it treats day and boarders the same, all the children are in a boarding house and have a study so that they can do all their prep there too. All their meals are included, so you can pick them up whenever suits you if they are day pupils and they can stay one night a week for free too. It is a very friendly school with a great community.
