Hi All.my son has received offers from Tffin and Hampton and KGS. My son is both academic and sporty and currently he is in the prep school. He loves Hampton however, Tiffin is more practical for us .My concern is more about school's facilities and having more Asian students. Although we are Asian, I would prefer my son be in a place that there is balanced mixture of children. I am very confused and don't know what to do. I would appreciate to hear your experience with above schools.

I would say if you can afford it Hampton. I have a son there who loves it and am hoping ds2 will go too. I think comparing Hampton with Tiffin is like comparing apples and pears they are both fruit but completely different. I have friends with dc at KGS and they are very happy too. For me the location and onsite facilities swung it for Hampton over KGS.

I don't understand. Do you want more or less Asian children at the school? I suppose if you're paying you get to base your choices on the ethnicity of the children at a school do you?

I'm going to sidestep the ethnic issue. Lots of thinly veiled racism in criticism of grammar schools.

I have friends with DC in Yr 7 at Hampton and Tiffin, and all are very happy with their choice. Its an odd comparison. It depends what upwards of £140,000 is worth to you.

Ofcourse Hampton offers superior facilities in every way and fabulous sports grounds and treat the parents like paying customers, because they are!! With each boy paying way over £100,000 for their education I'm sure Tiffin would be pretty different too.

Our friends at Hampton LOVE the school. Our friends at Tiffin like the school a lot but LOVE the fact they aren't paying for it and life continues unhindered by fees. That's a purely personal decision.

Thank you jollyjapes , I have just checked the school ranking for 2015, Hampton and Tiffin are very close. financial side isn't a problem for me, Just want my son to be somewhere to be happy. His place at Hampton is a 13+ entry which means he needs to join the school in year 9. just thinking about his friendship, sooner he join the school( year 7), he can make friends easier. On the other hand, the facilities at Hampton is just amazing. that's make it very difficult to choose for me. Confused

Why not start a more specific thread about the pros and cons of starting school at 11+ or 13+? You might find some useful input.

If cost was no issue I'd choose Hampton simply because if it really no issue why not pay for the better facilities and nicer surroundings etc. But the 11+ v 13+ is a more specific question.

I guess from the way your thread has gone that KGS is out of the running?
If you're worried about friendships, I think a reasonably large number enter Hampton at 13+ (more than KGS) & that your son will know some of them from Denmead, if that's where he is now. Ask how Hampton integrate the 13+ boys. Ask Hampton parents who have boys who entered at 13+ as you must know some.
If KGS is still on your radar, definitely go 11+.
