Hi. We have been invited to a 13+ orientation day at Brighton College in March and would really appreciate any information, hints or tips anyone might have. Thanks!

Is your DS doing the new pre-test or is this just a "social" so he can meet other pupils? If the former, I can't help, as pre-testing is new. Generally, he just needs to be himself and enjoy the day. If the school is right for him, that will come through. My DS is in his first year (Y9) at BC and loving it. Any questions, just shout.

Hi there, I don't suppose either of you would let me know how it was in the end? My dd is due for the orientation day in a few weeks and we would love to have the heads up! Would be v grateful x

My dd is also going to the orientation day 13+ in a few weeks time. . I would be grateful for any feedback on the difference between Brighton College and Roedean as my daughter has been offered a year 7 place there starting in September.

There were a huge number of children there - I think 4 or 5 for every place available. The staff seemed nice and my ds enjoyed it. There were written exams in maths and english, several interviews, a chemistry experiment and some sport although you could opt to do drama instead. No idea about Roedean I'm afraid.

DS1 is also invited to the Orientation day at Brighton in March. Disappointing if numbers are as high as imelda3's experience last year - had hoped pre-test might have whittled down the numbers. Anyone have any idea how many are invited for how many places? Hope they enjoy it - does sound quite full-on from the invite! DS going for the Performing Arts route. Would be good to hear other parents impressions of selection process. Hoping it's a fairly relaxed day for the kids? (They did say to come in 'school tracksuit'?!)

Would really appreciate if there is anyone with Brighton Coll experience out there willing to share your experience of Orientation Day and life at the College generally? Thank you

DS attended the Orientation Day 2 years ago, he found it a full on (in a good way)but fun day. I think the format has changed a bit since then with a Maths and English question posed during the interviews as opposed to written papers which he sat in the morning that day.He said the interviewers were friendly and made him feel at ease. He came home desperately wanting to get in which we took as a good sign. Fortunately he was successful and starts this September. I hope this helps a bit.

Thank you so much for your response Garbo123. Good info. Hope your son loves his time there. I hope you don't mind me asking, is he boarding or day? We are undecided, but guess he needs to get a place first. All the best.

I think when we put the application in my boy was keen to board. Now he's not so sure? I'm happy to move to Brighton. Do you know if it's possible to hedge your bets and change it to day with a possibility of boarding? Is there any difference in the numbers of applicants for these places?

I don't think you can hedge your bets Railworker, you have to select one option. There are more day places than boarding.

My daughter really enjoyed spending the day at BC last Friday. We now have to wait til the summer half term to find out whether she has a place. Does anyone know how many day places will be available please?

I am waiting to here if my daughter is through to the next stage of the Brighton College 13+ entry process which will be the orientation day on 24 March with a maths and English paper. Does anyone have any experience they are willing to share about the exam and orientation day?
Many thanks in advance
