Godolphin & Latymer - music scholarship audition

Does anyone know whether invitation to a music scholarship audition at G&L is dependent on an applicant's results on the 11+ entrance exam? I raise this because G&L's admission policy states that "a Music Scholar must fulfil the normal academic requirements for entry to the school" and "not all those who apply will be called to audition".

Many thanks.

If you're not suited to the school (by not reaching the mark on the 11+ exam), you'd have a miserable time there, with or without a music scholarship.

The main priority is to find the 'right' school that will make your dd happy. Any scholarships are an added bonus (also a committment).

Thanks, evamummy. My DD just received an invitation to audition for a music scholarship and, as she sat the North London Consortium (Group 2) 11+ exam last week, I was wondering whether the two are linked (i.e., she was invited because she reached G&L's academic standard on the 11+ entrance exam).

Hi lostintheshuffle my DD applied for but didn't get an audition for a music scholarship at G & L so I contacted the school to find out if auditions were linked to performance in the 11plus .The school denied this -which I believe as the letter informing us that she hadn't got an audition came very soon after the 11plus. Good luck to your DD- as a matter of interest what are her grade levels/instruments ?

Thank you for your message, Lyn. I am sorry to hear that your DD did not get an audition.

My DD plays the violin at around grade 7 and piano at around grade 6.

fwiw dd was (at a guess) pretty useless at the school she sat for (not the same as you) last year however she still got a (good) music scholarship so at a total guess would say that if they did well enough to be offered a music scholarship then they would have to have done pretty badly in the main entrance exams not to be offered a place. best of luck

OP: I can only speculate that G+L assess the applicants on the basis of all 3 criteria: performance at written exams, interviews and (if applicable) auditions. Which I think is very reasonable and gives a much fuller view of an applicant than just the exams!
