Does your school use a surveillance service on school trips?

I received an email yesterday inviting me to log into a service that the school has bought into. The fact that the school gave this service my details without consent and the service then distributed them and others in error is of concern tbh.
From the website I can now log in and see my dd and her classmates/ peers/ other school members when they are out of school on trips or at sports events either live or historically.
I am really uncomfortable with this , not least because I don't want my daughter's image online to be accessible to the parents of (and others if they choose to share) potentially 1800 pupils.
I understand I can have my daughter's name flagged and so she shouldn't be pictured but tbh given the farce with my details being shared without consent and in error and the service telling me if I see dd's image or in video footage on their site I only need to contact them to get her removed Hmm then I really don't want any part of it. And surely it means that I have to police it in order to ensure dd isn't pictured.
So can I ask does your school have this service? Do the teachers really have time to ensure that children who shouldn't be captured aren't? Why would a school or a parent want this service seeing as one of the benefits is supposedly being alerted to travel delays etc when the school has a text messaging service anyway?

What the hell? What's the name of this service? Have they got video cameras following your kids around? Confused

I have taught in a number of schools and I have never heard of such a thing. As you say it is very problematic in terms of data protection and I would not be comfortable with being expected to ensure that only the children with permission were captured on film. How does that even work?

I don't really want to post the name because I am in the midst of a complaint regarding my details being shared in error but from what I can gather the teachers have a handset that gathers images that parents then log on to the site to view either live or historically.
How feasible is it that teachers would be able to run a trip and ensure that a child wasn't captured when images are being streamed live? It's a big school 1800 pupils so an all year trip would be 250 pupils, many of the staff won't even know my daughter and so couldn't ensure she wasn't shown I would imagine. I am not being unreasonable to be unhappy at this am I? The provider says it's no different to Facebook which I don't have but even if I had I would be able to choose who saw my dd's pics and wouldn't broadcast them to the whole school and their parents.

This is frankly bizarre. What is the purpose? To see your kid having a nice time? Will parents be able to buy images? Or is it to check up on your kids and teachers?

What's wrong with a teacher simply taking a few photos with a camera?

What is the point? If something untoward was happening to your child and you were watching, there isn't a lot you can do from home. The teachers should be doing their job and looking after them. You are right to be concerned.

Who is actually filming them?

Are you sure about this? It sounds bizarre!

I thought it was just me from the response I have been getting from the provider and being pointedly ignored by the school. Dd has a disability and some idiosyncrasies that a lot of the time go unnoticed. The thoughts of these being captured and shown on the site and leaving her open to ridicule and abuse makes me feel sick tbh.

I've never heard of this service, can't quite see how it would work (which is why I asked who does the filming) and I would be inclined to opt my DC's images out of publication, even in a password-protected area.

I doubt our school would be coughing up for inessentials at the moment, though. I can't quite see what benefits this is meant to bring.

Yes I can opt out but I don't see how I can be reassured that every teacher would know dd and know that she cannot be shown? If a teacher is responsible for a fair number of pupils (don't know ratios in secondary) are they really going to take the time to ensure that the two or maybe three aren't captured. Don't they have enough to do? At dd's primary and so they have moved to this secondary some children were under a protection order so how will it work in those circumstances?
